Automation Technician – Calgary Division

About the Role

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Automation Technician is responsible for the implementation, programming, commissioning, and support of building automation systems (BAS) in alignment with company standards and project specifications.

This role ensures systems operate efficiently, accurately, and safely while supporting both field and office teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement company procedures and standards in the installation, commissioning, and documentation of automation systems.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot building automation control systems, databases, and graphical user interfaces.
  • Interpret project scopes, control drawings, and sequences of operation to verify system functionality and performance.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and according to allocated labour budgets.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to sequences of operation and control strategies to enhance energy efficiency and system performance.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered professionally and efficiently.
  • Provide regular project updates and status reports to the Project Manager.
  • Provide technical support to construction, mechanical, and service departments as required.
  • Support field commissioning, installation verification, and system testing.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for automation-related support.
  • Maintain professionalism and uphold company values while representing Care Systems on client sites.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Automated Logic (ALC) is a significant advantage.
  • Journeyperson Electrician (Red Seal or TQ), Engineering Technology diploma, I.T. background, or equivalent technical experience considered an asset.
  • FSR certification is an additional asset.
  • 3+ years’ experience with HVAC and building automation systems.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and IT aptitude; ability to interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Class 5 licence with a clean abstract; ability to travel periodically in BC and Alberta.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with company and site-specific policies.

Journeyperson HVAC Technician

Join our Okanagan Team!

Care Systems is seeking a Journeyperson HVAC Technician to join our growing Vernon division. A highly experienced 4th-Year HVAC Apprentice may be considered based on skills and capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues
  • Install and service ductwork, piping, refrigeration lines, and HVAC components
  • Complete service reports, work orders, and documentation accurately
  • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and internal teams
  • Follow all Occupational Health and Safety protocols and site requirements
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work environment
  • Participate in on-call rotation and occasional overtime as required
  • Ability to work out of town occasionally when necessary

Qualifications

Journeyperson HVAC Technician Requirements:

  • Valid Red Seal Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic (Journeyperson) certification
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and service experience with commercial HVAC systems
  • Solid understanding of refrigeration fundamentals, electrical systems, and controls
  • Gasfitter (A or B) and/or FSR certification is considered a strong asset

4th-Year Apprentice Considered:

  • Must be registered in the Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic Apprenticeship
  • Must demonstrate advanced competency, independence, and strong service ability

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation
  • Clean professional communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to undergo a criminal record check if required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and handle HVAC tools/equipment
  • Comfortable working at heights, on rooftops, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods
  • Work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures

Apprentice HVAC Technicians (1st Year or Higher)

Join our Okanagan Team!

The Apprentice HVAC Technician will assist experienced HVAC technicians with the installation, repair, and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This position reports to the Service Manager and provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while progressing toward becoming a fully licensed HVAC Service Technician.

We’re looking for a motivated individual with mechanical aptitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with HVAC systems
  • Support the installation of ductwork, piping, and electrical components
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used
  • Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment on job sites
  • Communicate effectively with customers and team members
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Attend training sessions to further knowledge and technical skills
