Construction Manager

At Care Systems Services, we are a reputable HVAC, DDC, and Electrical contractor dedicated to delivering exceptional service in the commercial, institutional, and light industrial construction sectors. Based in Vernon, we provide full-service building operation support throughout British Columbia and Southern Alberta. With 25 years of experience, we've successfully installed control systems in over 200 buildings and currently maintain more than 240 mechanical systems. Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Manager to lead our construction department. The ideal candidate will oversee the successful execution and strategic direction of all project activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, project timelines, budget constraints, and quality standards. Reporting directly to the COO, this leadership role demands an exceptional ability to manage teams, foster interdepartmental collaboration, and drive continuous improvement throughout the construction processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Department Leadership and Management:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the construction department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee daily operations, including project assignments, resource allocation, and team coordination.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance metrics that promote departmental success.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate Project Managers and department staff, fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
  • Collaborate with HR on staffing needs and personnel matters.

Strategic Planning and Project Oversight:

  • Oversee the creation and execution of comprehensive project plans, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards through high-level oversight.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to address challenges, proactively implementing solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Conduct regular project performance reviews, capturing lessons learned for future improvement.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Assume full ownership of the department’s budget, including project cost estimates and resource allocation.
  • Ensure effective cost control and identify opportunities for savings while maintaining quality and safety.
  • Work closely with finance to review and approve financial documents, including invoices and contracts.

Interdepartmental Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the construction department and other organizational departments.
  • Lead monthly meetings with sales, procurement, and engineering teams to align on project goals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, ensuring their needs are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Quality Control and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety standards in all construction activities.
  • Implement quality control procedures, conducting site inspections and audits to uphold company standards.
  • Address and resolve project quality, safety, or compliance issues promptly.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Ensure accurate reporting of key performance metrics related to project progress and resource utilization.
  • Lead project closeout processes, fulfilling all contractual obligations and ensuring client satisfaction.

Team Development and Performance:

  • Conduct performance evaluations for team members, providing feedback and identifying development needs.
  • Lead departmental training initiatives to keep the team informed of industry best practices and advancements.

Contract Management:

  • Ensure contractual obligations are aligned with company policies and project goals.
  • Manage change orders and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with scope and timelines.
  • Proactively resolve contract disputes to protect the company’s interests.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project or construction management.
  • Solid understanding of construction law and regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in construction management software and tools, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong financial acumen with skilled budget management and oversight capabilities.
  • Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
