As an HVAC Controls Designer, you are a key member of our engineering team, reporting directly to the Construction Manager. You will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless integration, design, and functionality of control systems across various projects.

Leveraging your strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and deep understanding of control systems design principles, you will be instrumental in building solutions that drive automation and enhance operational efficiency. Your attention to detail, commitment to quality, and technical precision will directly contribute to the success and execution of our engineering operations.

Compensation

$34.11-$44.23 per hour

Key Responsibilities

Control System Design & Development

• Design, develop, and configure control systems for industrial and commercial automation projects, ensuring optimal performance.
• Collaborate with project teams to review system requirements, specifications, and project needs to select appropriate hardware and software components.
• Develop control system architecture, create detailed design documentation, and select communication protocols.
• Partner with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to integrate control systems into overall project designs.

Documentation & Technical Support

• Prepare detailed technical documentation, including sequence of operations, controls submittals, user manuals, and test procedures.
• Provide technical support and guidance to project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Assist in creating as-built documentation and maintain accurate records of control system configurations and modifications (with designs reviewed by the Project Manager).
• Actively participate in the turnover of completed designs to the installation team.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

• Stay up-to-date with the latest control systems technologies, industry trends, and standards.
• Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to control system designs, processes, and engineering methodologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency gains.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure control system designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
• Conduct risk and compliance assessments with project teams and implement necessary safety measures.
• Participate in design reviews and quality assurance activities to identify and resolve potential issues or non-conformities.

Requirements

Education: Diploma in Engineering Technology (Mechanical with a Building Systems focus, Instrumentation & Control, or Electrical Engineering Technology).

Trade Alternative: Red Seal Electrician or Refrigeration Technician certification combined with verified Direct Digital Control (DDC) field experience.

Licensing & Travel: Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence and a clean driving record for travel to job sites, design turnovers, and commissioning walk-throughs.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

Software: Hands-on proficiency with Automated Logic Corporation (ALC) software and the WebCTRL platform is considered a strong asset.

System Operations: Proven ability to author, interpret, and test detailed Sequence of Operations (SOO) logic for HVAC equipment (including AHUs, chillers, boilers, and VAV systems).

Protocols: Practical experience configuring and troubleshooting low-voltage communication buses and field protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).

Standards & Codes: Sound working knowledge of regional building and electrical standards, including Technical Safety BC low-voltage requirements (Class 2 circuits) and ASHRAE 90.1 energy efficiency guidelines.

Journeyperson HVAC Service Technician

We are seeking an experienced Journeyperson HVAC Service Technician to join our growing team in the Okanagan Region (i.e. Vernon, Kelowna, Salmon Arm, Kamloops). In this role, you will be the face of Care Systems, diagnosing, servicing, and maintaining a wide variety of commercial HVAC systems. You will work closely with our Building Automation team to ensure client facilities run at peak operational and energy efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose & Repair: Identify, troubleshoot, and diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues on commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The scope and complexity of diagnostic responsibilities will increase based on your individual trade experience.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform detailed preventative maintenance inspections, routine servicing, and system adjustments to ensure optimal equipment longevity and minimize client downtime.
• Installations & Retrofits: Execute professional installation and equipment retrofits of commercial HVAC units, refrigeration systems, and/or related system piping.
• System Collaboration: Work alongside our DDC/Building Automation technicians to optimize automated HVAC controls (experience with systems like WebCTRL is a significant asset).
• Team Communication: Communicate effectively, proactively, and professionally with dispatchers, supervisors, and fellow team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Client Relations: Live out the C.A.R.E. acronym by communicating clearly with property managers and building owners, providing transparent explanations and long-term solutions.
• Documentation & Reporting: Accurately complete and submit digital service reports, work orders, safety logs, and time-tracking documentation on time.

What You Bring

• Certification: Valid Journeyperson Red Seal certification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanics.
• Additional Certification(s): Advanced trade credentials, such as a Gasfitter (Class A/B) or an Electrical/Gas FSR designation, are highly desirable.
• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience servicing complex commercial mechanical systems.
• Skills: Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills. Familiarity with digital controls and building management systems is highly desirable.
• Safety First: A clean commercial driving record and a rock-solid commitment to safety protocols and procedures.

Apprentice HVAC Technician

We are seeking a 2nd to 4th Year Apprentice HVAC Technician to join our growing team in the Okanagan Region (i.e. Vernon, Kelowna, Salmon Arm, Kamloops). In this role, you will work under the guidance of experienced Journeypersons while developing your skills in diagnosing, servicing, and maintaining a wide variety of commercial HVAC systems. You will gain hands-on exposure to advanced mechanical systems and our Building Automation team, setting a solid foundation for your career.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Communication: Communicate effectively, proactively, and professionally with dispatchers, supervisors, and fellow team members to ensure smooth daily operations.

What You Bring

• Additional Certification(s): Holding a Gasfitter (Class B) ticket or any basic electrical/gas safety credentials is considered a strong asset.
• Experience: Previous experience working on commercial or light commercial mechanical systems, with a strong mechanical aptitude.
• Skills: Solid foundational knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems. A strong desire to learn digital controls and building management systems.
